GMB Post Size: The Complete Image and Video Specification Guide

Upload the wrong size image to a Google Business Profile post and Google will not reject it outright, it will just crop it, usually from the center, cutting off exactly the part you wanted people to see. This guide gives you the exact specs for GMB posts in 2026, plus the related specs for photos, cover photos, and logos, since mixing these up is where most of the confusion actually comes from.

Quick Answer

The recommended GMB post image size is 1200 x 900 pixels at a 4:3 aspect ratio, uploaded as a JPG or PNG between 10 KB and 5 MB. This is different from a general profile photo, which uses a 1:1 square ratio at 720 x 720 pixels. Videos in posts can be up to 30 seconds long and up to 75 MB, at a minimum resolution of 720p.

Key Takeaways

Post images use a 4:3 ratio at 1200 x 900 pixels, not the 1:1 square ratio used for general photo uploads.
What's New, Offer, and Event posts all share the exact same image specs. The post type changes the fields available, not the media requirements.
Videos can run up to 30 seconds and 75 MB at 720p or higher, per Google's official guidance.
Post text has a 1,500 character limit, but only the first 100 to 300 characters typically show before a customer has to click through.
Off-ratio images are not rejected, they are cropped from the center, which is how logos and text end up cut off.

The Complete Size Cheat Sheet

Bookmark this table. It covers every image and video type you can upload to a Google Business Profile, not just posts, since these specs get confused with each other constantly.

Media Type	Recommended Size	Format	File Size
Post image (What's New, Offer, Event)	1200 x 900 px	JPG or PNG	10 KB to 5 MB
Profile photo / gallery photo	720 x 720 px	JPG or PNG	10 KB to 5 MB
Cover photo	1024 x 576 px	JPG or PNG	10 KB to 5 MB
Logo	720 x 720 px	JPG or PNG	10 KB to 5 MB
Video (posts or gallery)	720p minimum	MP4 recommended	Up to 75 MB, up to 30 seconds

Post Image Size in Detail

For the image inside a Google Post specifically, 1200 x 900 pixels at a 4:3 ratio is the size to aim for. Google technically accepts smaller images, with a practical floor around 250 x 250 pixels, but anything under roughly 720 pixels on the short side tends to look soft or pixelated once Google's system processes and displays it across Search, Maps, and the Knowledge Panel.

Why 4:3 and not square or widescreen

Google displays post images in a 4:3 frame. Upload a square (1:1) or widescreen (16:9) image instead, and Google crops it to fit, typically from the center. That crop can cut off a logo sitting near the edge, trim the top of a dish in a food photo, or slice off part of a headline overlay. Building your image at 4:3 from the start avoids this entirely.

Keep key details in the safe zone

Even at the correct ratio, keep logos, faces, and text within the central 80 to 90% of the frame. The outer edges are the first area trimmed if Google's display context needs a slightly different crop on a particular device or surface.

Video Specs for Posts

Google's official guidance allows videos up to 30 seconds long, up to 75 MB in file size, at a minimum resolution of 720p. In practice, some businesses have uploaded longer videos successfully, since file size rather than duration appears to be the harder limit, but quality is often reduced once you exceed the official spec, and Google does not guarantee longer videos will process correctly. For a reliable result, stay within the 30-second, 75 MB guideline and export at 720p or 1080p.

A short, focused video, 10 to 20 seconds, well under the file size cap, tends to be more useful for a local business than a video stretched to the edge of the limit.

Character Limits and Text

Post descriptions allow up to 1,500 characters. What actually matters more is the first 100 to 300 characters, since that is roughly what shows in the Knowledge Panel before a customer has to click through, and the exact cutoff shifts depending on whether a call-to-action button is included. Front-load the specific offer, date, or detail rather than saving it for the end of a long paragraph.

Call-to-Action Button Options

Each post can include one call-to-action button. The available options are:

Book, linking to a booking or reservation page
Order online, linking to a food or product ordering page
Buy, linking to a product or e-commerce page
Learn more, linking to any relevant page
Sign up, linking to a registration or newsletter page
Call now, using the phone number already on your profile

Offer posts also support an optional coupon code and redemption link instead of, or alongside, a standard button.

Does Size Differ by Post Type?

This is where people often get confused. What's New (the default, standard update post), Offer, and Event posts all use the identical image specification: 1200 x 900 pixels, 4:3 ratio, JPG or PNG, 10 KB to 5 MB. What changes between post types is the extra fields available, an Offer post adds start and end dates plus a coupon code, an Event post adds a specific date and time, but the media requirements stay exactly the same across all three.

Standard posts stay in their most visible, active placement for about seven days. After that, they are not deleted, they move into an archived state still accessible under "View previous posts," while a fresh post takes the prominent spot. That is one more reason a steady weekly posting habit matters more than a single well-designed post.

Common Sizing Mistakes

Uploading a square Instagram-style image directly into a post, resulting in an unwanted center crop.
Placing a logo or text too close to the edge, which gets trimmed in some display contexts even at the correct ratio.
Using a heavily compressed, low-resolution image that looks fine on a phone screen but blurs once scaled for Search and Maps.
Assuming Offer or Event posts need a different image size than a standard post, and formatting inconsistently as a result.
Uploading a video near the 75 MB cap without checking resolution, resulting in Google reducing quality further during processing.

Let GMB Pro Handle the Sizing

None of these specs are complicated individually, but remembering them every single week, for every location, is exactly the kind of small detail that slips. GMB Pro's post automation generates and formats images to the correct 4:3 post specification automatically, so every scheduled post is sized right without anyone checking a pixel count.

Never think about post dimensions again

GMB Pro creates AI-generated posts, sized correctly for Google's post frame, and schedules them automatically across every connected location.

For the full picture of what to actually post, see our guide on Google Business Profile management, which covers posting cadence alongside reviews, photos, and audits.

The Bottom Line

Get the ratio right and most of the guesswork disappears: 4:3 for post images, square for general photos and logos, 16:9 for the cover photo, and 30 seconds under 75 MB for video. The rest is consistency, showing up weekly with a properly sized image so nothing gets cropped, blurred, or lost at the edges.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ideal image size for a Google Business Profile post?

The recommended size is 1200 by 900 pixels with a 4:3 aspect ratio, uploaded as a JPG or PNG file between 10 KB and 5 MB. Google accepts smaller images down to around 400 by 300 pixels, but anything below roughly 720 pixels on the short side often looks soft or blurry once Google processes it.

Is the Google Business post image size the same as the photo size?

No, and this is where most confusion comes from. Post images use a 4:3 ratio at 1200 by 900 pixels. General photos added to your profile's photo gallery use a 1:1 square ratio, recommended at 720 by 720 pixels. The cover photo uses a 16:9 ratio at roughly 1024 by 576 pixels, and your logo uses a square ratio similar to general photos but displays in a circular crop.

What happens if I upload the wrong size image to a GBP post?

Google does not reject most off-size images outright, but it crops them to fit the 4:3 frame, usually from the center. A square or widescreen image can lose text, logos, or the main subject at the edges. Very small images, below about 250 by 250 pixels, may fail to upload or display blurry after processing.

Can I add a video to a Google Business Profile post?

Yes. Google's official guidance allows videos up to 30 seconds long, up to 75 MB in file size, at a minimum resolution of 720p. Some longer videos do get through if they stay under the file size limit, but quality is often reduced, so sticking to the official 30-second guideline gives the most reliable result.

Is there a character limit for Google Business Profile posts?

Yes. Post descriptions have a maximum of 1,500 characters, but only the first 100 to 300 characters typically show before a customer needs to click to read more, especially when a call-to-action button is added. Writing the key message in the first sentence matters more than using the full limit.

Do Offer and Event posts have different image requirements than standard posts?

No. What's New (standard update), Offer, and Event posts all use the same image specifications: 1200 by 900 pixels, 4:3 ratio, JPG or PNG, between 10 KB and 5 MB. The differences between these post types are in the extra fields they offer, such as start and end dates or coupon codes, not the image size.

What file formats does Google Business Profile accept for posts?

JPG and PNG are the accepted formats for post images. JPG tends to work well for photographs, while PNG is a better choice for graphics, text overlays, or logos where sharp edges matter.

Why does my Google Business post image look cropped or blurry?

Cropping usually happens when an image is not in the 4:3 ratio, since Google trims it to fit rather than stretching it. Blurriness usually comes from uploading an image too small for the frame, typically anything under about 720 pixels on the shortest side, or from a heavily compressed file that lost detail before upload.

For three and a half years, publishing a post on Google Business Profile meant guessing whether anyone actually saw it. Google removed post view counts in February 2023 and never replaced them. That changed this month. In its September 2026 Small Business Bulletin, Google confirmed that post view counts are rolling out globally, bringing a per-post visibility number back into the dashboard for the first time since 2023.This guide explains exactly what is returning, what it does not tell you, how to check it on your own profile, and what it likely means, and does not mean, for your local ranking. Because Google is still rolling this out, some details are not yet confirmed. We have flagged every one of those clearly so you know what is fact and what is still open.Key Facts At a Glance:Google announced the change in its September 2026 Small Business Bulletin, posted to the Business Profile Help Community by Google employee Lisa Landsman.Google calls the feature Google Posts Reporting and describes it as one of its most requested features.View counts cover posts published in the previous 18 months, on a rolling basis. The count applies to all post types: updates, offers, and events.Views are combined from Google Search and Google Maps into one single number per post. The feature is rolling out globally but is not yet available in the Business Profile API.Post button clicks have not returned, only views. What Happened: Post View Counts Are Rolling Out GloballyGoogle's September 2026 Small Business Bulletin, titled "Track your Google Post views," confirmed that businesses can now see how many times local customers viewed each individual post. Google describes the reporting as covering three specific things.Posts published over the previous 18 months, on a rolling basis. All post types, including updates, offers, and events.Views from both Google Search and Google Maps, combined into one number. The bulletin states the feature is "currently rolling out globally, not yet available in the API." That phrasing matters. It means the rollout applies worldwide, but it is landing gradually account by account, and it means the numbers are only visible inside the Business Profile dashboard itself, not through any connected reporting tool. This is also why choosing the right google business profile management software matters when new data points become available. The change was not a total surprise. In August 2026, a screenshot circulated on social media showing view counts on posts for one account while other users could not see the same feature, which pointed to a limited test running ahead of the official announcement. The September bulletin formalized what had looked like an early experiment into a scoped, global rollout. What Counts as a "View," Exactly?Google has not defined what counts as a post view. This is the single most important caveat in the entire announcement, and it is worth sitting with before you start comparing numbers across posts. There are two very different ways a "view" could be counted. It could count each unique person only once, no matter how many times they scroll past the same post. Or it could count every single appearance, so one person scrolling past a post three times in a day would add three to the total. These two definitions can produce dramatically different numbers for the exact same amount of real attention. For comparison, Google's existing Profile Views metric in the Business Profile Performance report counts each person once per day. It is reasonable to guess that post views could follow a similar logic, but Google has not confirmed this for posts specifically, and the help pages for posts had not been updated to define it as of this feature's initial rollout. Treat the number as a useful relative signal for now, this post got more attention than that one, rather than a precise count you can plug into a spreadsheet formula with full confidence. How to Check Post View Counts on Your ProfileThere is no new menu or separate report to learn. The count appears directly where you already manage your posts.Sign in to your Google Business Profile using the Google account that manages your listing.Select "Posts" from the dashboard menu.Look at each post card. If the rollout has reached your account, you will see a view count printed directly on the card, alongside the post's content and date.Check posts from the last 18 months. Anything older will not display a count, since that is the outer edge of the reporting window. If you manage more than one location, you currently need to check each profile individually, since this data is not yet available through the API or any connected multi-location dashboard.A Short History: Why This Data Disappeared, and How It Came BackContext helps here, because this is not the first time Google has changed what it measures on Business Profile. Here is the timeline as reported.DateWhat HappenedFebruary 20, 2023Google discontinues post views, post button clicks, and photo view counts as part of its migration to the Business Profile Performance API, with no replacement listed.August 2025Google refreshes its post creation tool, giving business owners one consolidated place to see and manage everything they have published.November 2025Google adds the ability to schedule posts in advance and publish the same post to multiple locations at once.March 25, 2026Google adds an Offers metric, covering views and clicks, to the Business Profile Performance report.August 2026A screenshot circulates showing post view counts live on one account while other accounts do not have it, suggesting a limited test.September 10, 2026Google's Small Business Bulletin confirms post view counts as "Google Posts Reporting," rolling out globally, not yet in the API.Seen as a sequence, this looks less like a single isolated feature and more like Google steadily rebuilding measurement around Posts over the past year, from a better creation tool, to scheduling and bulk publishing, to now a visibility metric. Whether that trend continues toward richer reporting, or toward API access, is not something Google has stated, but the pattern is worth watching. What This Data Does Not Tell YouIt is easy to over-read a new number the moment it appears. Before you do, keep these limits in mind.LimitationWhat This Means for YouNo click dataYou can see that a post was viewed, but not whether anyone tapped the button, called, or visited your website because of it.No confirmed definition of "view"Comparing exact numbers across posts, or across businesses, should be treated as directional, not precise, until Google clarifies the counting method. Not in the APIAgencies and multi-location brands cannot pull this into a centralized dashboard yet. It has to be checked manually, profile by profile.18-month window onlyOlder posts, even ones that performed well at the time, will not show historical view data now.Gradual rolloutNot every account has the feature yet, so an absence of a view count on your posts does not necessarily mean anything is wrong.Do Post Views Affect Local Ranking?Google has never confirmed that publishing posts, or the views they receive, directly influences where your profile ranks in local search. Independent ranking factor research, such as the studies local SEO firm Whitespark runs each year, has generally placed Posts well down the list of signals that move a listing up the map pack, behind categories, reviews, and proximity. For a deeper breakdown, read this guide on google business profile ranking factors. The more accurate way to think about Posts, including this new view data, is as an engagement and activity signal rather than a lever you pull to directly climb rankings. An active, regularly updated profile tends to correlate with a business that is also collecting reviews, keeping photos current, and answering messages promptly, all of which matter more for ranking on their own. Post views are a useful window into whether your content is landing with the people already looking at your profile, not a shortcut to outranking a competitor.Post Views vs Other Google Business Profile MetricsPost view counts are one piece of a bigger measurement picture. Here is where they sit relative to the metrics you may already track in the Business Profile Performance report.MetricWhat It MeasuresWhere to Find ItPost viewsHow many times a specific post was seen across Search and Maps, past 18 monthsIndividual post card in the Posts sectionProfile viewsHow many times your overall listing was viewed, counted once per person per dayPerformance reportSearch queriesThe actual terms people typed before finding your profilePerformance reportCalls, website clicks, direction requestsDirect actions taken from your profile as a wholePerformance reportOffers metricViews and clicks specifically on Offer-type posts, added March 2026Performance reportNotice the gap: the Offers metric already tracked views and clicks for one specific post type. The new Post Views feature extends visibility, but not clicks, across every post type. That is a meaningful but partial fix, and it is worth watching whether Google eventually brings click data to updates and events as well. How to Actually Use Post View CountsOnce the feature reaches your profile, here is how to put the number to work rather than just glancing at it.Compare post types against each other. Do service highlights consistently out-view offers, or the reverse? Let a few months of real data guide what you post more of.Watch for posting-time patterns. If you post at different times or days, note which slots tend to produce stronger early view counts.Treat it as one input, not the whole picture. A high-view post that generates no calls or bookings is still worth questioning. Pair post views with your overall calls, clicks, and direction requests to judge real impact.Keep a simple running log. Since this data is not yet in the API, a basic spreadsheet with post date, type, topic, and view count is enough to spot trends manually until automated reporting catches up.Do not focus only on increasing the number. Given the ambiguity around how a view is counted, use it to compare your own posts against each other over time, not as a precise external benchmark. What This Means for Agencies and Multi-Location BusinessesThe rollout is genuinely useful, but it lands with a real gap for anyone managing more than a handful of profiles. Because the data is not available through the Business Profile API, there is currently no way to pull post view counts into a centralized dashboard automatically. An agency managing fifty client profiles, or a brand managing fifty locations, has to open each profile individually to see this number. That is a manual, repetitive task, which is exactly the kind of work tools like GMB Pro's automated reporting exist to remove once the underlying data is programmatically accessible. Until Google opens post views up through the API, GMB Pro continues to track the profile-level metrics that are already available, calls, clicks, direction requests, and review activity, across every location from one dashboard, so you are not flying blind while this specific feature matures. We will add post-level view reporting to that dashboard as soon as Google makes it available through the API.Final ThoughtsPost view counts fill a measurement gap that local marketers have complained about since Google removed the original metric in 2023. It is a genuinely useful addition, but the honest picture is that it arrives with real limits: no click data, no confirmed definition of a view, no API access yet, and a rollout that has not reached every account. Use the number as one more signal for what is landing with your audience, not as a final verdict on any single post.If you would rather not check post cards one by one across every location you manage, GMB Pro's post scheduling and automated reporting already track the profile-level metrics Google exposes today, across every listing from a single dashboard. GMB Meaning: What GMB Actually Stands For

Quick AnswerIn digital marketing and local SEO, GMB stands for Google My Business, the free tool Google gave businesses to manage how they appear on Search and Maps. Google renamed it Google Business Profile (GBP) in November 2021, but GMB is still the more commonly searched and spoken term, and it refers to the exact same thing.Note: If you landed here looking for something other than the marketing term, GMB has a few other common meanings too, including a UK trade union and a British TV show. We’ll cover each of these in more detail later in this guide. Key TakeawaysGMB most commonly stands for Google My Business in a marketing or business context.Google renamed Google My Business to Google Business Profile in November 2021 and retired the standalone app in 2022.GMB and GBP describe the exact same free Google product, just from different points in its naming history.Outside of marketing, GMB can also stand for the GMB trade union in the UK, Good Morning Britain, Grand Master Bowman in archery, and more.Software tools, including GMB Pro, often keep GMB in the name because it is still the term most people actually search for.GMB Meaning in Digital MarketingIf you came across "GMB" on a marketing blog, in an SEO report, or from an agency, it almost certainly stands for Google My Business. This was Google's free tool for managing a business's presence on Google Search and Google Maps, covering the name, address, phone number, hours, photos, reviews, posts, and more, all pulled from one profile. The tool itself has not gone anywhere. What changed is the name. Google now calls this same product Google Business Profile, often shortened to GBP. So when someone asks what GMB means today, the honest answer has two layers: historically and colloquially, it means Google My Business, and officially, that product is now called Google Business Profile. Why Did GMB Become Google Business Profile?Google's local listings tool has changed names more than once. It started in 2005 as Google Local Business Center, went through Google Places and Google+ Local, and in 2014 was consolidated into a single product called Google My Business. On November 4, 2021, Google renamed it again to Google Business Profile, and in 2022 it retired the standalone GMB app entirely, moving day-to-day management directly into Google Search and Maps (Search Engine Land).Nothing about the underlying features changed with that rename. The reviews, posts, photos, and business information all carried over. The name changed, along with where you manage your profile. Is GMB the Same as GBP?Yes, completely. Here’s a simple comparison in one table. Years after the official rename, search habits have not fully caught up, and neither has everyday conversation. Keeping the familiar name makes the product easier to find, while everything it does is built entirely around the current Google Business Profile platform.Manage your Google Business Profile automaticallyWhatever you call it, GMB Pro connects to your Google Business Profile through Google's own API and automates posts, review replies, rank tracking, audits, and reporting. The Bottom LineGMB means Google My Business, the tool now officially called Google Business Profile. The name changed in 2021, but the habit of saying GMB never fully went away, and it is not the only thing those three letters can mean. If someone in marketing hands you the acronym, this is what they mean, and now you know the rest of the story too.

Google Business Profile for Restaurants : 2026 Playbook

A diner deciding between your restaurant and the one next door is usually not reading a long website page first. They are checking your Google Business Profile, looking at whether you are open, scanning your food photos, checking reviews, and deciding within seconds whether to call, visit, order, or book. That is why a restaurant profile needs more than basic setup. It needs an accurate category, current hours, menu details, ordering links, reservation options, real photos, fresh reviews, and regular posts. It also needs ongoing checks because Google has changed several restaurant-related features over the last two years. This playbook explains how to manage a restaurant Google Business Profile in 2026. It also updates old information about Google Posts, Q&A, food ordering, and chat, so your process matches how Google Business Profile works today. Quick Answer: A strong restaurant Google Business Profile needs a specific cuisine category, accurate hours, a live menu link, working ordering and reservation paths, real recent photos, consistent review replies, and regular posts. In 2026, restaurants should also understand that Google Posts follow a six-month archive rule, native chat and call history are no longer available, and the old Q&A experience has moved toward Ask Maps and AI-assisted answers.Key TakeawaysRestaurants should choose the most specific accurate category instead of relying only on the broad Restaurant category.Order links now need active management because Google allows restaurant owners to set a preferred ordering provider and request removal of unwanted third-party links.Reserve with Google is still active for restaurant booking partners where supported. The older shutdown confusion mainly relates to tours, activities, and attractions.Google Posts are still useful for specials, events, and updates, but older posts are archived after six months unless a date range is set.Native Business Profile chat and call history were discontinued in July 2024. Eligible accounts may have text or WhatsApp contact options, but this is not universal. The Q&A API was discontinued in November 2025. Many profiles now surface question-style answers through Ask Maps and other AI-assisted experiences.Multi-location restaurant groups need one repeatable profile management workflow across all branches. Why This Profile Is Your Busiest HostRestaurants get evaluated quickly. Customers want to know whether the place is open, whether the food looks good, whether the menu fits their plan, and whether other diners had a good experience. A restaurant profile answers those questions before a customer reaches your website. For a simple definition of how a profile works across Search and Maps, read What Is a Google Business Profile.A strong profile does not only improve visibility. It reduces friction. A customer can tap directions, call the restaurant, check the menu, order online, or reserve a table from the same place. That is why restaurants should treat the profile as a live marketing channel, not a listing that gets filled once and forgotten.Step 1: Choose the Right Restaurant CategoryPrimary category is one of the highest-leverage choices on the profile. Google uses it to understand what kind of local searches the business is relevant for. For restaurants, this means specificity matters.Use the narrowest accurate category available. If the business is a South Indian restaurant, bakery, cafe, biryani restaurant, vegetarian restaurant, or fine dining restaurant, that specific category is usually better than a generic Restaurant category. Secondary categories can help, but only when they genuinely apply. For a broader ranking view, compare this with the category section in our Google Business Profile ranking factors guide.Step 2: Get the Core Information RightRestaurant details change more often than many other local business categories. Hours, menu links, holiday service, delivery options, and special events can shift quickly. Small errors here can cost real customers.Use the real restaurant name exactly as it appears on signage and brand assets.Match address and phone details with the restaurant website and important directories.Keep regular hours accurate for dine-in, takeaway, delivery, and special service windows where supported.Update holiday hours before major holidays, festivals, long weekends, and private event closures.Select attributes that reflect current reality, such as dine-in, takeaway, delivery, outdoor seating, wheelchair access, and family-friendly details.Write a natural description that explains the cuisine, neighbourhood, atmosphere, and key dining experience without keyword stuffing. For field-by-field setup guidance, use our Google Business Profile optimization guide before making large changes.Step 3: Set Up Online Ordering the Current WayOnline ordering needs active control. Google’s current help explains that restaurants can show order options from third-party providers and links added by the business. Restaurants can also set a preferred ordering provider for pickup or delivery. The official Google food ordering help also says providers must remove third-party ordering links within five business days after a valid business request. Review those settings in your profile using Google’s online ordering guidance.Add your own direct ordering page when possible.Mark your preferred ordering option for pickup and delivery where available.Remove third-party ordering links that are outdated, unauthorized, or no longer useful.Check ordering links after changing providers so customers do not land on a broken or wrong page.Make sure pricing, delivery radius, and available items match the restaurant’s current operations.Step 4: Set Up ReservationsReserve with Google continues to support restaurant bookings through partner systems where available. A restaurant that uses a supported booking provider should check whether the Reserve a table button appears correctly and whether availability syncs into the booking system.Restaurants using partners such as OpenTable, Resy, Tock, or other Reserve with Google partners should confirm that the profile is verified, the partner connection is active, and the booking flow works from both mobile Search and Maps.Step 5: Build Out the MenuA menu link is essential, but it should not be the only menu signal. Google’s restaurant profile tools allow restaurants to show menu information, menu links, and popular item details where available. This helps customers understand the offering faster.Add a direct menu link to the correct page, not the homepage.Keep the menu link mobile-friendly because most restaurant searches happen on mobile devices.List popular items with clear names and current prices where the profile supports it.Remove dishes, offers, or seasonal items that are no longer available.Use real dish names that customers search for, not only internal kitchen names.Step 6: Add Photos That Actually Drive VisitsRestaurant photos are decision-making assets. A customer wants to see food quality, seating, hygiene, ambience, entrance, and crowd comfort before they choose a place. Stock photography weakens trust because it does not show the real experience.Upload real photos of actual dishes, interiors, exterior signage, staff at work, and table setups.Refresh photos every few weeks, especially after menu changes, festive decor, or renovation work.Use clear, well-lit photos that accurately represent the restaurant.Include exterior photos so first-time visitors can recognize the entrance.Avoid screenshots of printed menus as the main menu experience. Use the menu link and item fields instead.A monthly visual review fits well inside a wider profile health check. You can use our Google Business Profile audit checklist for that routine.Step 7: Turn Reviews Into a SystemReviews matter heavily for restaurants because food, service, hygiene, ambience, and waiting time are all subjective. A customer often trusts other diners before they trust the restaurant’s own description.Collect reviews consistentlyAsk happy customers at the right moment, such as after a good dine-in experience, successful delivery, catering order, or private event. Use a direct review link or table QR code to reduce friction.Reply within a few daysReply to both positive and negative reviews. Thank customers specifically when they mention a dish, staff member, or visit type. For complaints, acknowledge the concern calmly and avoid sounding defensive.Watch the trend, not only the averageA steady stream of recent reviews can be more convincing than a large number of old reviews. If review velocity slows down, restart your review request process before competitors look more active. For review workflow ideas beyond restaurants, see our Google Business Profile management guide.Step 8: Post Like the Kitchen Depends on ItPosts are useful for specials, offers, events, new menu items, holiday menus, and seasonal promotions. Google says posts can include text, photos, videos, and action buttons, and they can appear in Search and Maps.Current Google guidance says posts older than six months are archived unless a date range is set. Use that rule as your reference when planning post frequency.Post weekly as a practical minimum for most restaurants.Use real food or ambience photos instead of generic graphics.Promote daily specials, weekend menus, events, festive offers, brunches, happy hours, and chef recommendations.Use a clear call to action such as Order now, Call now, Reserve, or Learn more.Keep captions short and specific. Avoid vague lines that could apply to any restaurant.Step 9: Manage Multiple Locations Without Losing ConsistencyA restaurant group usually faces a consistency problem before it faces a strategy problem. One branch may have fresh photos and fast review replies, while another may have outdated hours, old menu links, or unanswered complaints.Create a shared profile management calendar across locations.Keep brand-wide fields consistent while allowing branch-specific posts, photos, and offers.Assign one profile owner per location and one central reviewer for quality control.Review all location profiles monthly for hours, menu links, review response time, and photo freshness.Compare performance by location so weaker branches can be supported quickly. If you are comparing software options for this kind of workflow, read our Google Business Profile management software guide.Restaurant-Specific Ranking FactorsThe same relevance, distance, and prominence framework applies to restaurants, but food businesses rely more heavily on quick decision signals. Category accuracy, review recency, photo freshness, menu accuracy, and active posts can strongly influence whether a customer chooses your listing after it appears.Distance still matters, but restaurants can win attention through stronger relevance and prominence. A specific category, accurate hours, a helpful menu, real photos, and regular review replies give Google and customers clearer signals than a thin or outdated profile.2026 Platform Changes Restaurants Should KnowOrder links need closer review because restaurants can add custom links, set preferred ordering options, and request removal of third-party links. The My Business Q&A API was discontinued on November 3, 2025. Public Q&A has been replaced or reduced across many profiles as Ask Maps and AI-assisted answers become more visible.Business Profile chat and call history were discontinued on July 31, 2024. Eligible accounts may show text or WhatsApp contact options, but restaurants should confirm availability before relying on it.Posts older than six months are archived unless a date range is set, so weekly posting is about freshness and conversion, not a seven-day expiry rule. When platform changes create confusion, compare your workflow with our local SEO tool comparison guide to understand what should be automated and what still needs manual review.Common Mistakes Restaurants Should AvoidUsing only the generic Restaurant category when a specific cuisine category is available and accurate.Leaving old delivery marketplace links active after switching providers.Assuming Reserve with Google is gone for restaurants because of unrelated booking changes in other categories.Letting negative reviews sit unanswered during busy service weeks.Using a photo of a printed menu instead of a clean menu link and item list.Posting once a month with generic captions instead of creating useful weekly updates.Managing multiple restaurant locations without a shared checklist or reporting process.A Simple Weekly Workflow for RestaurantsDayProfile TaskMondayReply to weekend reviews and note recurring complaints.TuesdayPublish one post for the week’s special, event, offer, or menu item.WednesdayAdd one or two real photos from recent service.ThursdayCheck weekend hours, holiday hours, reservation links, and ordering links.FridayScan for suggested edits, missing information, and broken links before the weekend rush.MonthlyReview performance trends, compare branch activity, and audit menu, photos, posts, reviews, and citations. How GMB Pro Helps Restaurants Manage Their ProfileEverything in this playbook is manageable for one quiet location.
